The Unforgiving King

The Unforgiving King

The king of a certain community had 10 wild dogs. He used them to torture and eat any of his servants who made a mistake or who did something he did not like.

One day one of the servants gave an opinion which was wrong, and the king didn’t like it at all. So he ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs.

The servant said, “I have served you for 10 years, and you do this to me? Please give me 10 days before throwing me to those dogs.” The king agreed.

In those ten days, the servant went to the guard who looks after the dogs and told him he would like to serve the dogs for the next ten days. The guard was baffled but agreed, and the servant started feeding the dogs, cleaning for them, bathing them, and providing all sorts of comfort for them.

When the 10 days were over, the king ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs for his punishment.

When he was thrown in, everyone was amazed to see the ravenous dogs licking the feet of the servant. The king, baffled at what he was seeing, said, “What has happened to my dogs?”

The servant replied, “I served the dogs for only 10 days, and they didn’t forget my service. I served you for a 10 whole years and you forgot everything I did for you when I made my first mistake!”

The king realized his mistake and ordered the servant to be set free.

Too many people will forget all the good you have done in this world, and the good that you have done for them, as soon you as you do something they do not like. Like the bad king, they will turn against you at the drop of a hat. They are quick to remember the one bad thing you did wrong, but even quicker to forget about all the good you have done.

When someone does something that offends you or upsets you, don’t forget all of the good they have done before that and why you have them in your life to start with. Act with wisdom instead of emotionally! Be rational and forgiving, not impulsive and rash. Forgiveness breaks the chains of your captivity.

The other lesson we can learn from this parable is that there is always a way out if we are smart enough to find it. Never give up and throw in the towel. You are never defeated until you YOU decide to quit.

When the someone or some thing is more powerful than you, you must use your wits and strategy to rip victory from the jaws of defeat. Never give up; fight to the finish, but fight wisely.
